The Granger ISS tornado shelter offers a level of durability and reliability that is not possible by other underground or above ground units. Granger's trademarked design offers industry leading advantages that are not available for shelters made of less resistant materials, such as fiberglass, carbon steel or concrete. Polyethylene is not deteriorated by moisture unlike many other materials. Moisture-absorbing materials such as fiberglass will decay, rot, mold and mildew, as will concrete which also will fracture and crack, or steel which will certainly rust. Polyethylene simply has none of those issues because water does not deteriorate the material.
